CBSE launching new website

Kochi,May 20,2012: The Central Board of Secondary Education is launching an Academic website (www.cbseacademic.in). This website will provide insight not only into the academic activities of the Board but also objectives, policy initiatives, programs, information, materials and activities which otherwise might not be easily accessible to all. Special emphasis is been given to make the portal easy to navigate through the site-links that are clearly marked and are self explanatory making navigation easy and `user –friendly', claims CBSE Chairman.

The site opens to a home page or main page that acts as a starting point from which the user can base his/her search. The home page contains direct links to most of the other sections of the web site. These direct links are in the form of table of contents, an index, a site map, a pull-down menu and also through a specifically designed and easy to identify set of buttons. There are certain sections like `Mentoring’ and `Accreditation’ that open to a sub-domain with a look of an independent website.

The Academic website will be a source for the latest as well as old publications including textbooks, support materials, CBSE Quarterly Journal CENBOSEC, Annual report and even a sub section where one can get to know the list of latest publications with their price and availability.

Moreover, it will also be a source of information about the ongoing programmes of the Board, with special focus on Training, Innovation and Research, in the form of Formative Assessment workshops, Effective Leadership Management Programmes for Principals and other such events. A regular update will be the key feature of such trainings and workshops.

Similarly there will be a Health and Wellness Tab covering information on various programmes being held by the Board under the aegis of Health and Wellness Clubs. It will also carry announcements, information and updates of endeavours like the `First International Life Skills, School Health & Wellbeing Summit-2012’ that will be held from 19-21 April, 2012 at India Islamic Cultural Centre, New Delhi. The summit will be launched by the Honourable Minister of HRM on 19th April, 2012. This unique programme will provide an eclectic platform where budding children from schools across the country will get an opportunity to interact with each other to promote creativity and awareness in health, wellbeing, friendship and peace, amongst the various cultural backdrops of the nation.

This is the first time that the Board is also involving students and peer educators to showcase their delivery of co-scholastic skills by coming together in groups of 50 schools. It will be fun for all the CBSE Schools to access the information on the click of a button and make maximum use of the opportunity.

The CBSE Results link on the website would announce the CBSE results and the students and the parents need not look for other links and sites. Similarly, the CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) Tab will be a one stop destination for information on question papers of CTET for the previous year, CTET bulletin and schedule for examination, results of CTET 2012 and various advertisement notices. It also has details on structure and content and syllabus of CTET exam, important information at a glance etc.

CBSE Academic is an evolving unit that disseminates information through regular circulars. In order to make these circulars easily accessible the Compendium in two volumes has been put together which brings together all circulars of importance from 8.3.2005 to 31.12.2011. Under Circulars compilation of circulars in the year 2012 have also been uploaded along with archive section covering all the old circulars.

The site is an effort from the CBSE Academic and Training Unit and aesthetic and visual appeal, navigation, and accessibility are the major focus points that have been kept in mind while designing and developing this website.

MBBS : 1 year rural posting made mandatory
New Delhi, May 20,2012 : Aspiring doctors will have to spend a year working in rural areas before getting their MBBS degrees, as the government has decided to make rural posting compulsory for them. In a letter to the Medical Council of India (MCI), the Health Ministry has asked its Board of Governors to make rural posting for doctors mandatory and include it in the MBBS course curriculum.

Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said doctors will be attached with the Ministry's flagship National Rural Health Mission during the year-long rural posting which will also help improve health care services in villages. Once this proposal becomes part of MBBS curriculum, a medical student, after completing 4.5 years of study and thereafter the hospital internship, will have to undergo a mandatory year-long house job in the form of a rural posting before getting the MBBS degree. Till then, the degree would be provisional.

Chairman of MCI Board of Governors K K Talwar told PTI that the one-year compulsory rural posting for doctors is in the offing and modalities in this respect are being worked out. The posting would be made mandatory in a designated rural area.

"We are working on this. A mechanism is being evolved in this regard. An expert committee is looking into this and will recommend modalities in its meeting soon, after which the details worked out will be sent to the Health Ministry for its approval," Talwar said.

Sources say the government is working to do away with the compulsory three-month rural posting during the year-long MBBS internship and the same will be made part of the one-year rural house job with an NRHM facility henceforth. Talwar said this one-year mandatory rural posting will help aspiring doctors to learn from senior doctors who will act as mentors in the rural area.

The MBBS graduates, he said, will be attached with a rural hospital and a nearby medical college during this one-year period. They will also get a reasonable stipend from the NRHM for their services during this period, he said.

Justifying the proposal, Azad said it takes almost seven years or even more to become a doctor and to actually get the permission to start prescribing medicines in developed countries whereas the MBBS course duration in India is much shorter.

The Minister said due to the shorter duration of the course here than in the developed nations, many students prefer to study MBBS course in India and then carry out higher studies abroad. Talwar also said that it takes seven to eight years to obtain a medical undergraduate degree in most countries and studying in India is also cheaper than in the developed world.

"The rural posting will go in favour of students aspiring to be doctors as it will help them upgrade their skills when mentored by senior doctors. The provision will give them peripheral exposure while also granting them reasonable facilities where they can hone their skills," he said.

He said the Council will make all such recommendations to the Health Ministry soon before this proposal is implemented. Government's efforts to attract doctors for rural postings through various incentives earlier did not yield any fruit, as there were no takers for 50 per cent reservation in postgraduate courses for MBBS doctors who opted for rural stints after taking undergraduate degree.

MBBS students who did a year of rural service were to get 10 marks as additional weightage in MD examination, while those who did three years service in backward areas were to get 30 marks. The scheme did not have a single taker. "I say it with regret that our doctors have decided not to go to rural areas. Nobody has come forward to avail of the incentives offered by the Government," Azad had said in Parliament last week.

Education institutions are not like some company that can wind up one day. We cannot allow educational institutions to go bust, Sibal said.

The Minister also said there was talk of using latest technology to bring higher education to a greater mass, but the main responsibility of the government remained in promoting primary education.

"Out of the 509-million workforces, 70 per cent haven't got primary education. We first need to get the schooling system right," Sibal said.
—iGovernment Bureau

To read this news in original, please click hereClicksandWriteshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17306975647100026600noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7522148288531377272.post-91352930008936607092009-10-28T21:36:00.000-07:002009-10-28T21:37:48.147-07:00(Project) Mathematics Project Guide For CBSE By Vasant Valley School(Project) Mathematics Project Guide For CBSE By Vasant Valley School

General Instructions:
- The project should be hand written
- Credit will be given to original and creative use of material/pictures/drawings/methods of illustrating
- The project must be presented in a neatly bound simple folder.

Any one of the following projects may be chosen:

A) Linear Equations
Project Assignment Think of a question that asks about a cause and effect relationship between two measurable quantities. (eg.. does fingernail length affect typing speed?)

1. Write two different "how does _____ affect _____" questions.
2. Select the question that makes the most sense to you and explain why you have chosen it.
3. Write a hypothesis to answer your question.
4. Graph your data using appropriate choices of scales and axis.
5. In pencil, draw your "best" line.
6. Find the equation of your line.

Respond to the following questions
7. What do the variables in your equation represent? What does the equation represent?
8. Was your data positively correlated, negatively correlated or neither? Give possible explanations for the relationships or absence of relationships that you see in the data.
9. Use your equation to predict two data points not represented by the data. How good do you think these estimates are? why?
10. What information does the slope indicate?

Present your findings in a 3-4 pages handwritten report. Graph must be included.

B) Integer trains
You can use rods of integer sizes to build "trains" that all share a common length. A "train of length 5" is a row of rods whose combined length is 5. Here are some examples:

Notice that the 1-2-2 train and the 2-1-2 train contain the same rods but are listed separately. If you use identical rods in a different order, this is a separate train.
How many trains of length 5 are there?
Repeat for length 6
Repeat for length 7
Come up with a formula for the number of trains of length n. (Assume you have rods of every possible integer length available.) Prove that your formula is correct.
Come up with an algorithm that will generate all the trains of length n.
Create trains of lengths 6,7. Record any findings, conclusions in 3-4 pages of handwritten work.

C) Area of an Arbelos

Objective: Prove that the area of the arbelos (white shaded region) is equal to the area of circle CD.

What is an arbelos?
The arbelos is the white region in the figure, bounded by three semicircles. The diameters of the three semicircles are all on the same line segment, AB, and each semicircle is tangent to the other two. The arbelos has been studied by mathematicians since ancient times, and was named, apparently, for its resemblance to the shape of a round knife (called an arbelos) used by leatherworkers in ancient times.

An interesting property of the arbelos is that its area is equal to the area of the circle with diameter CD. CD is along the line tangent to semicircles AC and BC (CD is thus perpendicular to AB). C is the point of tangency, and D is the point of intersection with semicircle AB. Can you prove that the area of circle CD equals the area of the arbelos?

To do this project, you should do research that enables you to use the following terms and concepts:

right triangles,
circumscribing a circle about a triangle,
similar triangles,
area of a circle,
Tangents are perpendicular to radii at the point of contact.
Materials and Equipment
For the proof, you'll need :

pencil,
paper,
compass, and
straight edge.
Experimental Procedure

Do your background research,
Organize your known facts, and
Spend some time thinking about the problem and you should be able to come up with the proof.
Present your findings in a 3-4 pages handwritten report.
D) The Birthday paradox

Objective : The objective of this project is to prove whether or not the birthday paradox holds true by looking at random groups of 23 or more people.

Introduction: The Birthday Paradox states that in a random gathering of 23 people, there is a 50% chance that two people will have the same birthday. Is this really true?

Experimental Procedure
1) First you will need to collect birth dates for random groups of 23 or more people. Ideally you would like to get 10-12 groups of 23 or more people so you have enough different groups to compare. Here are a couple of ways that you can find a number of randomly grouped people.

You could use birthday lists from your own school for different classes.
Take the class lists of about 12 sections. Pass these around each of these classes and collect the birth date data
Use the birth dates of players on major teams. (Note: this information can easily be found on the internet).
2) Next you will need to sort through all the birth dates you have collected and see if the Birthday Paradox holds true for the random groups of people you collected. How many of your groups have two or more people with the same birthday? Based on the birthday paradox, how many groups would you expect to find that have two people with the same birthday?

3) Tabulate/Organize your data and findings in a 3-4 pages handwritten report

E) Perimeters of Semi Circles
Objective: The objective of this project is to prove that the sum of the perimeters of the inscribed semicircles is equal to the perimeter of the outside semicircle.

Introduction : The figure below shows a semicircle (AE) with a series of smaller semicircles (AB, BC, CD, DE,) constructed inside it. As you can see, the sum of the diameters of the four smaller semicircles is equal to the diameter of the large semicircle. The area of the larger semicircle is clearly greater than the sum of the four smaller semicircles. What about the perimeter?

Materials and Equipment
For the proof, you'll need :

pencil,
paper,
compass, and
straight edge.
Here's a suggestion for your display: in addition to your background research and your proof, you can make a model of the Figure with colored paper. Sibal is the Minister for Human Resource Development. He said that students often ignore their Class 12 board exams to focus on entrance exams for IIT, and the new policy hopes to address that.Sibal says his remarks were misreported by some parts of the media, which said that the new guidelines mean that students will need to score much higher in their boards if they want to get into IIT. Currently, students who clear the IIT entrance exam have to prove they've scored at least 60 per cent in their Boards.Raising this minimum worries states like Bihar, where students do not have equal access to good schools. Students here perform well in the entrance exam, however, and this guarantees them admission in IIT.Sibal has clarified that the current policy has not been changed, and there is no cause for concern. What role Class 12 results will play in IIT admission will be decided by a new committee headed by Dr Anil Kakodkar, chairperson of the Atomic Energy Commission. The committee is expected to submit its guidelines in January for review.ClicksandWriteshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17306975647100026600noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7522148288531377272.post-50412904333785021072009-09-28T00:21:00.000-07:002009-09-28T00:23:50.441-07:00Blog to assist learning of mathematics<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 149px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr6bVpI1sVEyamYhCzVl8Hk-kP7Bf4v7_Q38kZ037KVkuv593F8QBN1plzbmtUu-NqAqSCnIJfoDlNoUZq_bCCfVsM0Y4_bs0OuZBDK12hIBBe8u3uR0GpeuQXCLmhbBUBDTp7pLdL0fk/s400/Mathematics+DSC00717.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5386415607802114818" />ClicksandWriteshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17306975647100026600noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7522148288531377272.post-54111906782577576122009-09-14T23:15:00.000-07:002009-09-14T23:18:08.857-07:00CBSE Class 10 will have Two SemestersCBSE Class 10 will have Two Semesters
Prashant K. It will take into account both teacher's and learner's point of view in understanding and internalising a subject. He was loved and respected by all. During the recent CBSE Xth examinations, I had a chance to meet him in person and while talking to him, I passed on to him my son's admiration for him and his style. I told him Sir, my son Suraj is a big fan of yours and every day he comes back and talk about you, your jokes and experiences. With a smile he returned to me showing hundreds of children getting ready to the exam hall that your son is one amongst the several others. They are our future, so we have to take them along in the right way. Sir, I envy those who had the opportunity to interact more with you in life to gain valuable knowledge shared by you as you treaded each day of your life.

The embalming ceremony will be held at the Central Hospital Abu Dhabi on Sunday, 14th June 2009 at 5:00 pm.

<img style="display:block;
